Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- B.Sc. in Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Soil Science, Physical Geography or related fields required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five years of directly related experience is required.
- Experience with data loggers and control systems is required.
- Experience working with weather monitoring equipment is required.
- Experience working in a research environment operating micrometeorological instrumentation is an asset.
- Computer programming experience including the use of Phython is an asset.
- Experience with repair and maintenance of gas or liquid flow or pressurized systems an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with job-related software such as MATLAB, EddyPro, Word/WordPerfect, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
- Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and administer specific phases of projects is required.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team are required.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
- Must be able to exercise sound judgement when solving field research problems.
- Good manual dexterity is required.
- Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include mobility and/or moderate to heavy lifting.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- No allergies to animals, plants or plant products or job‑related materials.
Key responsibilities
- Daily operation of two micrometeorological flux sites, TGAS-MAN and TGAS-HM.
- Data processing and weekly reporting of flux estimates and supporting atmospheric and soil conditions.
- Data and field activity archiving.
- Ordering of calibration and reference gases as well as lab and field supplies to support the two research sites.
- Regularly document measurement and analysis techniques in reports and prepare standard operating procedures.
- Provide training to graduate students and assistants in learning skilled techniques and the operation of micrometeorological equipment.
- Present at site field tours and demonstrations of micrometeorological instrumentation.
- Obtain quotations and purchase field and laboratory equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
